Kathryn "Katie" Nageotte (born June 13, 1991 in Lakewood , Ohio ) is an American athlete who specializes in the pole vault .

career path

Nageotte was born in Lakewood, a suburb of Cleveland , and grew up in the neighboring town of Olmsted Falls . After graduating from Olmsted Falls High School in 2009, Nageotte attended the University of Dayton from 2010 to 2011 and moved to Ashland University in 2012 , where she completed her bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in fashion merchandising. In the same year, Nageotte completed a course in the fashion industry during Paris Fashion Week at the Paris Fashion Institute .

Athletic career

Katie Nageotte began pole vaulting in 2004 at the age of twelve. In the Bulldogs of her school, she was I Ohio High School State Champion in 2009 with a 3.86 m Division . From 2010 to 2013 Nageotte was a sports student. At the Dayton Flyers of the University of Dayton , she set a university record in 2010 with a height of 3.90 m. In 2012 she went to the Ashland Eagles of Ashland University after numerous sporting low points .

In 2013 Nageotte became national NCAA champion of Division II both outdoors and indoors. At the start of her professional career this year, she achieved 6th place at the US championships and from then on regularly took top 10 placements at US outdoor championships, like in the hall.

2015 was her most successful year at first. At the beginning of the year she won bronze for the first time at the US indoor championships and achieved her best placement at the US championships with fourth place . She was also able to reach the podium for the first time internationally and take bronze at the NACAC championships .

In 2016, Nageotte made it to 5th place in the US Olympic Trials . and then moved to Pullman (Washington) to train with the two-time pole vault world champion Brad Walker .

In 2017 she became US indoor runner-up .

In 2018 Nageotte had her breakthrough in the world class. Right at the beginning of the year she became US indoor champion by repeatedly screwing her personal best up to 4.91 m, which meant fifth place in the world best list. At the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham she came in 5th place with 4.70 m. With a championship record of 4.75 m, Nageotte won the NACAC championships . Almost three weeks later she was US runner-up with 4.70 m and another three weeks later she won 2nd place at the first Athletics World Cup in London with 4.68 m . In the world rankings she had reached 10th place.

In 2019, Nageotte was able to defend her title at the US Indoor Championships with 4.65 m and again become US runner-up with 4.80 m . At the Pan American Games she came in second place with 4.70 m.

In 2020 Nageotte, meanwhile in fifth place in the world rankings, did not start at the US indoor championships , although she could have won the third national indoor title in a row. During the Covid-19 pandemic , she took part in the long-distance competition called Ultimate Garden Clash on May 16 and came in second, behind Katerina Stefanidi and ahead of Alysha Newman .
