Olmsted Falls is a city in Cuyahoga County , Ohio , United States . The population was 9,024 at the 2010 census.

history

The entire area of Olmsted Township was originally part of the Connecticut Western Reserve . In 1806, the township that developed into what is now North Olmsted and Olmsted Falls and other areas was sold to Aaron Olmstead, a wealthy partner in the Connecticut Land Company, for $ 30,000.

The country was settled from 1814 and was first called Kingston, later Lenox. In 1829 Charles Olmstead, son of Aaron Olmstead, donated a library here, the first to be found west of the Allegheny Mountains . As a thank you, the township was renamed after the Olmstead family. The "a" was later deleted from the name, and the family also called itself "Olmsted" in future.

As early as 1820, the power of the waterfalls on the western tributary of the Rocky River was used by a flour mill and a sawmill. A settlement soon formed around these buildings in the center of the township. The parish was founded as Norris Falls in 1843, but renamed Olmsted Falls two years later.
