Katja Strauss-Köster

Katja Strauss-Köster (born as Katja Strauss ; * August 19, 1970 in Herdecke ) is a German politician (non-party). She is the full-time mayor of the city of Herdecke.

Life

Katja Strauss-Köster went to school in Herdecke. From 1990 to 1994 she studied spatial planning at the Technical University of Dortmund . After completing her studies, she worked at the Technical University as a research assistant, where she obtained her doctorate in engineering in 1999 . The topic of her doctorate was "City Networks - Expectations and Reality from an Ecological Point of View". In 2001 she moved to the city of Herdecke, where she worked as an agenda officer and since 2005 has been the head of the office for “Sustainable Urban Development”.

Katja Strauss-Köster is married and has a son and a daughter.

Mayor's office and commitment

In the mayoral election in 2009 she was an independent candidate for the so-called “ Jamaica Coalition ” of the CDU , Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and FDP . With a turnout of 63.4 percent, she was able to prevail with 70.9 percent of the votes against the SPD candidate, the former member of the state parliament and district president of the Arnsberg district, Renate Drewke , and succeeded the long-time SPD mayor Hans-Werner Koch . In 2015 Katja Strauss-Köster was re-elected with 65.4 percent of the valid votes.

As part of her mayoral work at Stadtsparkasse Herdecke, she is chairman of the administrative board, the credit committee and the balance sheet review committee as well as a member of the association assembly of the Sparkassenverband Westfalen-Lippe .
