Katrine von Hutten (born May 3, 1944 in Lohr am Main , † June 1, 2013 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German writer and translator .

Life

Katrine von Hutten came from the Franconian branch of the noble Hutten family . Her parents were Karl-Ulrich Freiherr von Hutten zum Stolzenberg (1898–1971) and Elisabeth Schackwitz (1917–2003), whose third of four children she was. After attending a grammar school in Heidelberg , she studied German language and literature and philosophy at the universities in Heidelberg , Marburg and Bonn from 1964 to 1967 . During this time she worked as an editor on the " Lyrische Hefte ". From 1970 to 1972 he studied free graphics at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences . From 1974 she continued her studies at New York University ; In addition, she worked on her own literary texts, took reading trips to the United States organized by the Goethe Institute and translated fiction from English . In 1979 she took part in the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition in Klagenfurt . In 1981 she completed her studies with a master's degree . In the same year she returned to Germany, where she initially lived in Munich and Fischbachau . Katrine von Hutten had suffered from multiple sclerosis since the early 1990s . In addition to her literary work, she was also active as a singer of classical songs. The author was based in Heidenheim an der Brenz and died on June 1, 2013 in Frankfurt am Main.

Katrine von Hutten had been a member of the German PEN Center since 1993 . She received the Leonce and Lena Prize in 1969 , the GEDOK Literature Promotion Prize in 1971 and the State Capital of Munich's Literature Prize in 1987 .
