The Katza is a 15 km long orographic left tributary of the Werra in the west of Thuringia , district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen . It rises immediately southwest of Oberkatz on the northern slope of the 712 m high Diesburg in the Vorderrhön . In its north-easterly course along Landesstraße 2619, it passes Unterkatz , Wahns and Mehmels , until it finally flows into the Werra in Wasungen .
