Kay Borowsky (born January 28, 1943 in Poznan ) is a German writer and translator .

Life

Borowsky's ancestors come from Riga , Latvia . Borowsky was originally supposed to take over his father's bookstore in Riga. During the Second World War , his parents were relocated to occupied Poland in the course of the involuntary resettlement of the Baltic Germans , which is why he spent his early childhood in Poznan. The father died in the Balkans in 1944. While fleeing from Posen to Berlin towards the end of the war , his brother died. Kay Borowsky and his mother finally got to Nagold , where he spent his youth, via detours .

After studying Romance , Slavic and German studies , which he completed with a doctorate in 1973 ( Boris Pasternak's conception of the essence of poetry and the role of the poet ), Kay Borowsky worked in Tübingen bookstores , including Gastl and Heckenhauer . In the end he took up the profession that his father wanted him to have done in Riga. He began to write while studying. Detective novels like Snow Falling on Hats (1983) or Endurance Run in the Evening (1988) are characterized by the precise representation of details.

In addition to journalistic articles for the features section, Borowsky also increasingly published translations of poetry and prose from English, French and Russian, including works by Edgar Allan Poe , Charles Baudelaire , Anna Akhmatova , Ossip Mandelstam , Wladislaw Khodasewitsch and Michail Lermontow . He works as a translator for publishers as well as for magazines and newspapers. Borowsky lives in Tübingen .

Literary work

During his studies, Borowsky published poetry and aphorisms in addition to prose. The volume of poetry Towards Tomorrow was published in 2010 in France in two languages.

Kay Borowsky playfully varies the literary legacy instead of freezing in front of it. In doing so, he not only inherits his own, German-speaking authors' fathers and forefathers, but also takes up ideas and images in order to appropriate them to his intellectual property, the authors of which he feels like spiritually, regardless of where and when they lived.

In Tübingen texts such as “Wanderings in Tübingen and Europe” (2005) or in the prose miniatures Careful, Careful (1996), he ironically ironizes his place of residence. There he writes about the “Wiener Gässle”, for example, that it is “the most important street in Tübingen, it creates the connection between the town hall and the old auditorium and gives the city a cosmopolitan character”.
