Kazimierz Opaliński
Kazimierz Opaliński (born February 22, 1890 in Przemyśl , Austria-Hungary , † June 6, 1979 in Warsaw ) was a Polish actor and theater director.
Life
In his hometown of Przemyśl, Opaliński first worked as a printer and in his spare time played in an amateur theater. He made his stage debut in 1912. During the First World War he was deported to Russia for forced labor. There in the camp he took part in artistic activities. After the war he returned to a resurrected Poland and now fully concentrated on theater work. First he played as an actor again in his hometown and then in the theaters of Lemberg , Sosnowiec , Katowice , Lublin , Danzig and Łódź . From 1933 to 1936 he played in Warsaw and went to the Słowacki Theater in Krakow , where he was part of the ensemble until the German attack in 1939.
During the German occupation he worked as an employee of the Kraków city administration and returned to the Słowacki Theater in 1945. In 1951 he came back to Łódź, where, in addition to his theater work, he built up a film career. In 1953, he was appointed to the Polish National Theater Teatr Narodowy , where, with one interruption from 1957 to 1963 (member of the Teatr Współczesny , Warsaw), he was part of the ensemble until the end of his life. However, he had his last theater appearance in 1976. Kazimierz Opaliński is buried in a grave of honor in the so-called “Alley of those who deserve for the fatherland” in Warsaw's Powązki cemetery .
