Keith "Bingo" Allen (born August 21, 1923 in Saskatoon , Saskatchewan , † February 4, 2014 in Delaware County , Pennsylvania ) was a Canadian ice hockey player , coach and official who worked for the Detroit Red Wings from 1954 to 1955 in the National Hockey League and coached and general manager for Philadelphia Flyers .

Career

After many years in the AHL, Allen moved to the Detroit Red Wings for 28 games . After his 18 games, he won the Stanley Cup in 1954 . After 10 games in the coming season, his guest appearance as a player in the NHL was over and he was in the WHL for 10 years as a player and coach, mainly in Seattle .

In 1967, Allen returned to the NHL as the first coach for the Philadelphia Flyers . Two years later, he moved to the position of General Manager and built a team that won the Stanley Cup twice in a row in 1974 and 1975 . This team was known for its extremely rough style of play and therefore went down in ice hockey history under the name Broad Street Bullies . He worked for the Flyers until 1983.

Later he was instrumental in founding the Maine Mariners in the American Hockey League ( AHL ), which became one of the most successful clubs in this league.

Allen was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992 in the Builder category .
