Kelly Michael Armstrong (* 8. October 1976 in Dickinson , North Dakota ) is an American politician of the Republican Party . In November 2018 he was elected to the US House of Representatives. He represents the entire electoral district of the state of North Dakota. He was previously a member of the North Dakota State Senate .

Life

Armstrong earned a bachelor's degree from the University of North Dakota and a law degree ( JD ) from the law school there . He then worked as a lawyer until 2012. He is a partner in the law firm “Reichert Armstrong Law”. At times he also worked for "Armstrong Energy Corp.", his father's company.

Armstrong lives in the city of his birth with his wife and two children.

Armstrong ran for the 2012 North Dakota State Senate in the 36th District. He had no opponent in the Republican primary. In the general election he won with 74.5% of the vote against the Democratic candidate Rich Brauhn with 25.3%. In 2016 he was re-elected without an opponent. In the Senate, Armstrong served on the committees on transportation, justice and energy, of which he was most recently chairman.

Armstrong also served as Republican Chairman in North Dakota from June 2015 to February 2018 and attended the 2016 Republican Convention as a delegate.

Armstrong ran in the 2018 congressional election for the seat in the North Dakota constituency, whose mandate holder Kevin Cramer successfully ran for the US Senate . He prevailed in the Republican primary with 56.3% of the vote against three other applicants. He won the general election with 59.9% against the Democratic candidate , Mac Schneider, who received 35.9%. His term began in January 2019.
