James H. Sinclair

James Herbert Sinclair (born October 9, 1871 in St. Marys , Ontario , Canada , † September 5, 1943 in Miami , Florida ) was an American politician . Between 1919 and 1933 he represented the third and from 1933 to 1935 the second constituency of the state of North Dakota in the US House of Representatives .

Early years

In 1883, James Sinclair came to Cooperstown , Griggs County , North Dakota with his parents . There he attended public schools. He then graduated from Mayville State Normal School . He then worked from 1896 to 1898 in the school administration of Cooperstown and from 1899 to 1905 he was a notary in Griggs County. Sinclair was a co-founder of the First National Bank of Binford . From 1905 to 1908 he also worked at this bank. After moving to Kenmare , Ward County , he began working in both agriculture and real estate.

Political advancement in the US Congress

Sinclair became a member of the Republican Party . From 1915 to 1919 he was a member of the House of Representatives from North Dakota . In the 1918 congressional elections, he was elected to the US House of Representatives for the third constituency of his state as the successor to Patrick Daniel Norton . After he was re-elected in the following years, he was able to exercise this mandate between March 4, 1919 and March 3, 1933. According to a census, the third constituency of North Dakota was dissolved at the end of the legislature in March 1933. Therefore, Sinclair ran for the 1932 congressional election in the second constituency. After he had won these elections, he replaced Thomas Hall on March 4, 1933 and completed a legislative term until January 3, 1935. During this term, the beginning and the end of the legislative periods in the US Congress were from March to January 3 brought forward. In 1934, Sinclair was no longer nominated by his party for another term.

Another résumé

After the end of his service in the US House of Representatives, James Sinclair was a member of a special commission between 1936 and 1939 that dealt with claims by Mexico and Mexican citizens ( Special Mexican Claims Commission ). He died in Miami in September 1943.
