John Miller Baer
John Miller Baer (born March 29, 1886 in Black Creek , Outagamie County , Wisconsin , † February 18, 1970 in Washington DC ) was an American politician . Between 1917 and 1921 he represented the first constituency of the state of North Dakota in the US House of Representatives .
Early years
John Baer attended the public schools of his home country and then until 1909 Lawrence University at Appleton . In 1909 he moved to Beach in Golden Valley County (North Dakota). There he worked in agriculture, among other things. He also made cartoons and published newspaper articles. From 1909 to 1915 he was also a postman in Beach.
Political career
Baer became a member of the Republican Party . After the death of Congressman Henry Thomas Helgesen , he was elected in a by-election as his successor to the US House of Representatives. After he was confirmed in office in the regular congressional elections of 1918, he was able to exercise the mandate between July 20, 1917 and March 3, 1921. In Congress he chaired the Department of Agriculture's Expenditure Control Committee. In 1920 he was no longer nominated and therefore resigned from Congress in March 1921.
Another résumé
After retiring from the House of Representatives, Baer worked as a cartoonist and journalist. He no longer held any political office. He died in Washington in February 1970.
