Kelly Pannek (born December 29, 1995 in Plymouth , Minnesota ) is an American ice hockey player who has played for the University of Minnesota in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association in the position of striker since the 2014/15 season . Pannek has been a member of the United States women's national ice hockey team since 2017 and is a two-time world and Olympic champion.
Career
Pannek spent her high school at Benilde-St. Margaret's School in St. Louis Park , Minnesota . There she played between 2010 and 2014 and during this time she took part with the US U18 team in the 2013 U18 World Junior Championship , where she won the silver medal.
After graduating from school in the summer of 2014, the striker moved to the University of Minnesota , where she played for the university team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association , while studying . In her rookie season , Pannek and the team won the national NCAA college championship. In the following season, she repeated this success before she made her first jump to the women's national ice hockey team of the United States at the end of the 2016/17 game year . With this Pannek took part in the 2017 World Cup, where she won the gold medal.
As a result, the attacker interrupted her studies in the summer of 2017 and was recruited by the US ice hockey association USA Hockey to prepare for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang . With these Pannek secured the Olympic gold medal.
