Ken Jones (composer)

Kenneth Evan Jones (born October 2, 1927 in Manchester , England , United Kingdom , † April 25, 1988 in Switzerland ) was a British conductor and composer of film and television music. In addition to his work, he was a music director on the television series Parkinson and wrote several scores for film comedies .

Life

Jones was born in Manchester . He began his music career as a studio arranger for Norrie Paramor . There he arranged (designing, artistically arranging / putting together) music for The Zombies , Jim Dale and Jonathan King . In the 1960s he established his own orchestra and began his career in film and television. He has previously worked with Douglas Gamley on special films, including Little Thumbsling and City of the Dead , and later wrote complete scores for films such as The Green Minna , Dentist in the Chair and its sequel, The Cream You Talk about . In 1964 he was employed by the BBC to compose the music for Steptoe and Son to replace Ron Grainer , who focused on Doctor Who .

On behalf of BBC One , Jones made the comedy series Marty and the sitcom Sykes , which was produced from 1972 to 1979. Also in 1979, Jones directed the entrance of the Eurovision Song Contest 1979 , that of Black Lace . Between 1971 and 1979 he worked as a music director for Parkinson 's.

In 1979 he was accepted by rival Independent Television , where he wrote and composed the theme song and music for the sitcom Only When I Laugh .

Jones died on April 25, 1988 while on vacation in Switzerland .
