Kenna
Kenna Zemedkun (* in Ethiopia ) is an American alternative musician.
CV and musical career
The eldest son of an immigrant family who left Ethiopia because of the military regime there, he grew up in Virginia Beach and Cincinnati . He discovered his interest in music when he received a copy of U2's The Joshua Tree album . The works of the Beatles as well as Stevie Wonder , The Cure and The Cars served as additional inspiration. Malcolm Gladwell dedicated a chapter to him in his bestseller Blink. The Power of the Moment from 2005.
His first single Hell Bent was shown on MTV in 2001 with the short film More . His debut album New Sacred Cow followed on June 10, 2003 . The release was initially delayed due to the chaotic search for a label. In the summer of 2003, Kenna went on tour with Dave Gahan , the front man of the band Depeche Mode . His album, co-produced by Chad Hugo of The Neptunes , with whom Kenna attended high school, contains elements of electronic music , synth-pop , post-rock and house . The singles Sunday After You and Freetime followed.
Kenna's second album Make Sure They See My Face , on which Hugo also took part, was released on October 16, 2007 after several delays. Kenna got the inspiration for this work while attempting to climb Kilimanjaro , which he had to abandon because he had to suffered an allergic reaction. To reassure the waiting fans, he released the title Face the Gun in advance , which was originally not supposed to be part of the album, but has now been added to the tracklist. The title Better Wise Up came out just in time for the Super Bowl . On October 6, 2006 there was the premiere of Out of Control (State of Emotion) from Kenna's EP Black Goodbye Ride with Mark Ronson . The title was also used on the PlayStation Portable . In 2008 he appeared in the Arte program One Shot Not .
Kenna also contributed to albums by other bands associated with Chad Hugo or The Neptunes. For this, the title belonged spiral on William Orbit album Hello Waveforms and Red to Black and The Hard Way on the album The Rising Tied by Mike Shinoda's Fort Minor . On Mark Ronson's album version he sings a cover version of Ryan Adams ' title Amy . He joined in the video for Kelis 'single Young, Fresh n' New on, co-wrote the single clutch of Shea Seger and was Title This Is My World by Darius Rucker involved. He also supported Ashlee Simpson on her third album.
On July 7, 2007, Kenna opened the Live Earth Concert in East Rutherford . On October 16, 2007 his second album Make Sure They See My Face was released . The title of the album was influenced by Pharrell , who was supposed to convince the artist again and again that he should show his face on the album.
His song Say Goodbye to Love was nominated for Best Urban / Alternative Performance at the 2009 Grammy Awards .
In 2011 Kenna released the extended play Land 2 Air Chronicles I: Chaos and the Darkness , which was to be followed by two extended plays under the title Land 2 Air Chronicles II: Imitation Is Suicide Chapter and an album in 2013 . The concept was influenced by the film Inception . In fact, only three EPs were released for the 2011 sequel.
