Alois Bergmann-Franken

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alois Bergmann-Franken (born March 27, 1897 as Alois Bergmann in Glattbach ; † March 16, 1965 ibid) was an academically trained German painter.

Live and act

Alois Bergmann completed an apprenticeship in the lithography department of the Aschaffenburg colored paper factory from 1913 to 1916 and then attended the Mainz School of Applied Arts . From 1921 to 1927 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . In 1924 he received the State Prize of the Academy and was a master student (with his own studio) with Professors Carl Johann Becker-Gundahl , Franz Klemmer and Max Doerner , he received scholarships and study visits to Italy and Paris.

In 1928 he married Friedel Siegmund, who gave him four children. In 1931 he added the addition of francs to his name.

In the 1930s he began to be known in the Franconian area through his artistic work in the churches. He mastered the fresco technique , encaustic painting , tempera painting and oil painting .

By 1965 he had created over 40 depictions of the Way of the Cross in painting and mosaic, many frescoes and mosaics in churches in Lower Franconia, oil paintings, watercolors, concrete glass windows, woodcuts and sculptures of the Madonna.

His work in the Diocese of Würzburg has not yet been adequately researched. The churches in Greßthal , Mainbernheim and Sennfeld show a great architectural similarity in the interior, but this similarity cannot be denied through the works of Bergmann-Franken. The frescoes characterize the aforementioned church rooms in a very unique way.

His work includes thousands of works; some fell victim to the zeitgeist and were painted over (Glattbach Church, Church in Großwelzheim). The depiction of Saint Martin at the old hospital in Aschaffenburg was destroyed by the demolition of the building.

On the initiative of grandson Bernd Bergmann, a special exhibition was held in 2009 in the town hall of his home community. At the presentation of the Kunstverein Glattbach on the 44th anniversary of the artist's death, not only the work of the painter was documented, but also its importance in the present; Most of the exhibits were from private collections.

In 1954 he became a board member of the Turnverein 1895 Glattbach eV .

Alois Bergmann-Franken died on March 16, 1965 while working on a mosaic in the Glattbach school and was buried in the cemetery of his hometown.

The community of Glattbach dedicated a street to him. With a length of around 290 meters, it connects the streets Hohlacker / Weihersgrund with the street Am Stutz. The public transport stops in Weitzkaut, Hohlacker and Weihersgrund are in the immediate vicinity. The Alois-Bergmann-Franken-Straße has a local transport connection to the bus (line 9 AVG)
