Kent Nielsen (born December 28, 1961 in Frederiksberg ) is a Danish football coach and former player. He has been coaching the Aalborg BK team since October 2010 .
Player career
Kent Nielsen began his career at Brønshøj BK , where he played 230 league games in six years. His good performances during this time also paved his way for the Danish national team. In 1986 he moved to Brøndby IF in Copenhagen , one of the most successful football clubs in his home country today. In Nielsen's time, Brøndby had won the Danish championship for the first time shortly before. With the defender, two more followed in 1987 and 1988. In 1989, Nielsen won the national cup in his senior year in Copenhagen. After this success he moved to Aston Villa in England and thus abroad for the first time. With the British, he also established himself in the regular eleven and was able to intervene in the championship race with his team completely surprisingly in the 1989/90 season. In the end you missed the title and finished second. At the beginning of 1992 Kent Nielsen returned to his homeland and moved to Aarhus GF , with whom he won the cup that same year. There he played until 1994 and then ended his active career for 32 years.
National team
Kent Nielsen played for the Danish national team from 1983 to 1992 over 50 games. At the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, he was part of the team's squad , but was not used. In 1992 he sensationally won the European Championship with the Danes after his team had moved up as a substitute for the disqualified Yugoslav team without preparation. These were the last international games for Kent Nielsen.
Coaching career
In 1997 Nielsen started his coaching career with an engagement at Grenaa IF. After three years of activity, he returned to his former club Aarhus GF in 2000, where he was briefly assistant coach in 2000. For the 2002/02 season he took over the coaching position at the second division AC Horsens . With the club he rose in 2005 to the super league . A year later he was voted Denmark's Coach of the Year 2006. In 2009 he took over Brøndby IF , where he had signed a contract until June 30, 2012. However, Brøndby did not qualify for an international competition and was eliminated early in the national cup, so that Nielsen had to vacate his post in March 2010. In October 2010 Nielsen signed a three-year contract with Aalborg BK , replacing Sweden's Magnus Pehrsson .
