Kettcar is a German indie rock band from Hamburg that was founded in 2001.
history
Before founding Kettcar, Marcus Wiebusch and Frank Tirado-Rosales had been part of the band ... But Alive since 1991 , which played punk music with political texts. Reimer Bustorff played with Rantanplan until the band was founded , as did Marcus Wiebusch. Shortly after the band was founded in 2001, the EP As long as the fat woman is still singing, the opera is not available for free download on the band's homepage.
Since no record label could be found for their debut album Du und wieviel von dein Freunde , Marcus Wiebusch, Reimer Bustorff and Thees Uhlmann von Tomte founded their own label Grand Hotel van Cleef (GHvC), on which the album was released in October 2002. The second album Von Spatzen und Tauben, Dächern und Hands followed in 2005. In response to the G8 summit in Heiligendamm in 2007 , Kettcar took part in May 2007 with many other artists on the Move with the title Imagine Everything (No Guillotine Far and Wide) -against-G8 sampler.
The third album entitled Sylt was released on April 18, 2008 and entered the album charts at number 5. On August 31, 2008, they played a sunrise concert on the Hamburg Kampnagel site with acoustic versions of some of their titles, supported by a string quartet. The recording of this concert forms the main part of the DVD Live on Kampnagel - 5:43 am , which was released in autumn 2009. In November 2009 they went on a six-concert tour with this program, supported by strings from the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt . From the concert of the tour at Fliegende Bauten in Hamburg, a live album of the same name was released on CD and vinyl on January 22, 2010, which contains the songs from the concert without the intervening announcements. In June 2010, Frank Tirado-Rosales announced that he would leave the band to devote himself to other projects. His successor is Christian Hake, who was already on the drums with Home of the Lame and Olli Schulz . On February 10, 2012, the band released their fourth studio album, which is called Between the Rounds . From April 2013 Kettcar took a creative break. In July 2017, Kettcar ended their break with a new album and an extensive tour through Germany, Austria and Switzerland in January / February 2018. After the great success of this tour, the band gave further concerts in spring 2019 and several festival appearances in the same year .
On August 11, 2017, Sommer '89 (He cut holes in the fence) was the band's first release in over five years. The song is a statement about the refugee crisis . The fifth album I vs. We appeared on October 13, 2017. In the lyrics, Kettcar picks up on current events from “ego cynics, pegidists and concerned citizens” and jokes at live concerts that he is now “political punk”. On March 15, 2019, the band released the EP The sweet fragrance of contradiction (We vs. Me) , which contains five songs, the continuation of the album Ich vs. Wir .
style
Musically, Kettcar belong to the area of German-speaking indie rock and indie pop . With the last albums, especially with Zwischen den Runden , the style was broadened instrumentally by piano, string and wind instruments and thus more progressive and jazzy . The band is often mentioned in connection with the Hamburg School . Marcus Wiebusch does not see this connection, only the origin is the same. Reimer Bustorff describes the style as guitar pop.
Discography
All publications are on the Hamburg label Grand Hotel van Cleef , which singer Wiebusch and bassist Bustorff co-founded .
