Kevin James Hector (born November 2, 1944 in Leeds ) is a retired English football player.

Player career

Bradford Park Avenue

Kevin Hector started his career in 1962 with the English third division club Bradford Park Avenue and was relegated directly to the fourth division. In this league he made a name for himself as a goal scorer and scored 113 goals in 176 league games between 1962 and 1966.

Derby County

In September 1966, Hector moved to the English second division club Derby County and made his debut on September 17, 1966 in a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace . With the arrival of the new coach Brian Clough at the beginning of the 1967/68 season, the most successful period in the club's history began. In the Second Division 1968/69 Derby managed to return to the First Division after 16 years. The start in the top English division began very successfully in the 1969/70 season with fourth place. After a ninth place in 1970/71 Derby County won the first league title in the club's history in 1971/72 . In addition to his teammates Alan Hinton and John O'Hare , Hector (42 games / 12 goals) proved to be an accurate player. Kevin Hector made his debut for the England national team at the age of 28. On October 17, 1973, he played his first international match in qualifying for the 1974 World Cup in Germany in the decisive match against Poland . Hector was substituted on by coach Alf Ramsey when the score was 1-1 for Martin Chivers , but failed with a chance at Polish goalkeeper Jan Tomaszewski and was eliminated from the qualifying with England. On November 14, 1973, he played his second and last international match in a 1-0 draw against Italy.
