Kevin Ryan (athlete)

Kevin Ryan ( Kevin Barry Ryan; born July 22, 1949 in Auckland ) is a former New Zealand long-distance runner .

In 1974 he was twelfth over 10,000 m at the British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch and was eliminated over 5000 m in the preliminary run. He then won the Rotorua Marathon in 2:20:45 h and the Hamilton Marathon in 2:16:51 h.

The following year he improved himself as the winner of the New Zealand Games to 2:14:29 h and came 72nd at the World Cross Country Championships in Rabat in 1975 . A victory at the Victoria Marathon Championship in 2:13:15 h was followed by defending the title in Hamilton.

In the 1976 Olympic Games marathon in Montreal, he did not finish.

In 1978 he was sixth at the Boston Marathon and fourth at the Commonwealth Games Marathon in Edmonton with his personal best of 2:11:44 h .

The following year he finished 55th at the Cross Country World Championships in Limerick . He finished sixth in the Boston Marathon , fourth in the Montreal Marathon and ninth in the Fukuoka Marathon .

In 1980 he was ninth in the Boston Marathon , and in 1981 he won the Toronto Marathon and the Wiri Marathon. 1982 followed a second place in the Auckland Marathon a fifth in the marathon of the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane .

In 1983 he was third in Auckland, came 14th in the New York City Marathon and won the Honolulu Marathon .

He was New Zealand champion four times in 15 km and 16 km road running (1973, 1974, 1977, 1979), twice over 10,000 m (1973, 1980) and once in cross country (1974).
