Kim Chan

Kim Chan (born December 28, 1917 in Guangdong , † October 5, 2008 in Brooklyn , New York City ) was an American actor .

Career

Chan and his family left China, their home country, in 1928 and the family settled in New York. He made ends meet for many years with odd jobs, as he could not book any notable engagements as an actor for a long time. If anything, the Chinese was used as a Japanese soldier in extras . It was only with a role as the butler of Jerry Lewis in Martin Scorsese's comedy King of Comedy in 1982 that he was able to attract the attention of casting agencies. Appearances in a number of successful Hollywood films of the 1980s followed. Chan also gained greater fame in Germany through the portrayal of the wise Kung Fu master in the television series Kung Fu - In the Sign of the Dragon between 1993 and 1997. Other supporting roles followed, among others, in The Fifth Element , Lethal Weapon 4 - Two professionals clean up and Shanghai Knights .
