Kim Hyeongkyu (* 13. June 1992 in Masan , South Korea ) is a South Korean boxer in the heavyweight division . He is about 1.88 m tall, left-hand boom and started boxing in 2006.

successes

His first successes were winning the gold medal at the South Korean Youth Championships 2010, as well as a bronze and a silver medal at international tournaments in 2011 in China and Russia . At the Asian Championships in 2011 he also won the gold medal in the light heavyweight division, after defeating the Chinese Meng Fanlong in the final. At the 2011 World Championships in Baku he was defeated in the first fight against the later vice world champion Ädilbek Nijasymbetow .

In 2012 he won bronze at the Strandja Memorial tournament in Bulgaria and started in the Asian Olympic qualification in 2012, where he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Sumit Sangwan. At the 2013 Summer Universiade in Russia, he came in fifth after losing to Oleksandr Hwosdyk . At the 2013 World Championships in Almaty, he lost in the second fight against Sjarhej Novikau .

In 2014 he won the China Open tournament in Guiyang , defeating Navruz Jafoyev, Shi Guojun, Ehsan Rouzbahani and Tursynbay Kulakhmet. He then took part in the Asian Games in 2014 and won the silver medal in the light heavyweight division, after losing 2-1 to Aedilbek Nijasymbetow in the final. He had previously defeated Arslanbek Açilow and Oybek Mamazulunov .

At the Asian Championships in 2015 he was disqualified in the semifinals against Elshod Rasulov and therefore retired with a bronze medal in the light heavyweight division. At the 2015 World Championships in Doha, he was defeated in the first fight against Joshua Buatsi .

At the Asian Olympic qualification in 2016, he boxed in the heavyweight division and was eliminated in the round of 16 against Yu Fengkai. He was also defeated in the round of 16 against Abdeljalil Abouhamada at the 2016 World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Baku .

At the Asian Championships 2017 he lost in the first fight against Sanjar Tursunov . In 2019 he won the heavyweight gold medal at the Asian Championships , this time defeating Sanjar Tursunov in the final. In the semifinals he had defeated Vasily Levit .
