Kim Se-jeong ( Korean 김세정 ; born August 28, 1996 in Gimje, South Korea ), also known by her stage name Sejeong , is a South Korean pop singer and actress . She is under contract with Jellyfish Entertainment . She became known through her participation in the casting show "Produce 101" and as a member of the girl groups I.OI and Gugudan . She made her acting debut in 2016 in the TV series The Sound of Your Heart .

Life

Kim Se-jeong was born in Gimje, Jeollabuk-do , but later moved to Anyang , where she lived with her aunt with her mother and brother. Her parents divorced when she was a child. She talked about it on the JTBC show "With You," saying that she wasn't back in touch with her father until third year of middle school. She is currently studying at the Hanyang Women's University in Seoul.

Career

At the age of 16, Sejeong took part in the second season of the talent show K-Pop Star . After she was eliminated from the audition in the second preliminary round, YG Entertainment founder Yang Hyun-suk brought her back by wildcard. In the last round, however, she was eliminated again.

IOI

In January 2016 Sejeong took part in the Mnet casting show "Produce 101" together with Kang Mi-na and Kim Na-young. The show was about 101 female trainees from different agencies competing against each other to ultimately become part of an 11-person girl group. All three girls made it to the final, but Kim Na-young did not make it to one of the first eleven places. Sejeong and Mina became part of the girl group IOI. The group was planned as a temporary group from the start. IOI debuted on May 4, 2016, and disbanded on January 29, 2017.

Gugudan and solo activities

Gugudan 2016

In June 2016, YMC Entertainment announced that Sejeong and Mina would not participate in the activities of IOI's sub-unit but would return to their own agency to prepare for the debut of their girl group Gugudan. Gugudan officially debuted on June 28, 2016 with the single Wonderland . On November 23, Sejeong's first solo single Flower Way ( 꽃길 ) was released . The single was produced by Block B's Zico . Flower Way reached number 2 on the Gaon Digital Charts and gave Sejeong her first win as a solo artist on a music show.

On January 12, 2017, Sejeong released the single If Only ( 만 에 하나 ), a soundtrack for the TV series "Legend of the Blue Sea". From July to September she was seen in her first leading role as Ra Eun-ho in the television series "School 2017". For this role, she received a Popularity Award and Best Actress at the KBS Drama Awards. After the series ended, she was featured as a permanent cast on the Netflix series "Busted!" On October 13, the single Star Blossom ( 별빛 이 피면 ) was released. Star Blossom was a collaboration with NCTs Doyoung for the music project "SM Station" from SM Entertainment .

In addition to singing and acting, Sejeong was also active as a presenter in the KBS show "Talents for Sale" and "Get It Beauty" at OnStyle .
