King of the Rocket Men (Original title: King of the Rocket Men ) is an American science fiction film from 1949, the 1953 compilation of the same name 12-part serial , there emerged from the no German-language dubbed version, and on March 27, 1953 premiered in Germany. The German version appeared with the subtitles The Secret of Dr. Morgan (Part 1) and Unleashed Powers (Part 2).

The power-obsessed Dr. Vulcan tries to get hold of miracle weapons developed in a private research center by any means including murder . Against Dr. Vulcan, who never appears in person - only his voice can be heard and now and then his shadow can be seen - are Jeff King and Professor Millard. King uses a kind of backpack rocket and a beam weapon , the decimator. But if Dr. Vulcan to get himself not only into possession of the decimator, but also a terrible weapon of mass destruction with which he wants to blackmail the city of New York for a billion dollars . Ultimately, King succeeds in regaining possession of the decimator; the headquarters of Dr. Vulcans is destroyed with aerial bombs by the US Air Force .

Production notes

The trick shots come primarily from the Lydecker brothers , in particular the “flying” puppet pulled by internal wires as a prop for Jeff King. Republic also used these recordings in other productions, including Flying Disc Man from Mars and Des Satan's Satellite . This technique was first used by the brothers in 1940 in the serial The Adventures of Captain Marvel . As in other series and films, Dale Van Sickel also acted as a stuntman , who also appeared in a supporting role. As stock footage served u. a. Recordings by Deluge from 1933.
