The Kirchbergteich is a small, artificially created still water in Trautheim , part of the community Mühltal in the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg in Hesse .

geography

The Kirchberg pond is located on the western edge of Trautheim , between Darmstadt-Ost and Mühltal , in Forest Won "Bessunger Hinterforst", a mixed forest , below the western slope of the "Church Hill". The pond is geologically in the northern Odenwald in the granite area of the Geo-Naturpark Bergstrasse-Odenwald . The landscape corresponds to the typical hilly landscape of the Vorderen Odenwald .

The pond is almost circular and has a diameter of approx. 30 m. It is drained by the raven raft. A circular path leads around the pond.

The natural monument “Draudteiche” is located in the immediate vicinity of the pond .

history

As a popular destination for Sunday strollers, it is likely to be one of the most famous ponds in the Nieder-Ramstädter district . It is fed by three springs in the pond floor. It was laid out around 1738 as " Little pond on the Weinweg ", and on a map from 1752 it was called " The new pond ". The pond was fished for the first time in 1740. In 1786 it was completely muddy and was restored so that it could serve the Eberstädter Bachknecht as a storage pond for trout .

In 1839 the pond was restored again after it had fallen empty again, but was neglected again after only a short time. After the Second World War it was leased by a fishing club and has been maintained by them ever since.

The name of the Kirchbergteich goes back to the fact that the Nieder-Ramstadt church tower could be seen from its bank. Today this is no longer possible because of the high forest. Since 2009, the pond has been part of natural history school projects run by schools in the area.

fauna

Various animal species live in the area, including ducks , bats , gray wagtails , hawks , kites , pond newts , honey buzzards and wild geese . Numerous native fish species animate the pond.
