The Protestant Church Rehfelde is a choir square church in the municipality of Rehfelde in the Märkisch-Oderland district in Brandenburg . It is the oldest surviving structure in the village.

history

The choir and the nave were built by Cistercian monks in the second half of the 13th century . In 1499 the parish expanded the sacred building with the transverse rectangular west tower . An extensive renovation has been handed down from 1712, during which the pulpit and the altar in particular were restored. Around 1720 the parish rebuilt the building and enlarged the originally pointed arch windows. In 1725 she repaired the roof; 1861 the plaster and the paint. In 1954 the church was thoroughly renovated (including restoration of the ceiling painting and the repair of the pulpit altar). From 1998 to 1998, experts rebuilt the field stone wall based on an old model. In 2001 and 2002 the parish had the windows renewed.

architecture

The building was built in the Romanesque style from evenly hewn and layered field stones . The roughly 10.6 meter wide nave is about 13 meters long, the adjoining, just closed and retracted choir is another ten meters. It is around eight meters wide. On the north side of the nave there are two large arched windows that were enlarged in 1720. On the right below the eastern of the two windows a pointed arched female gate can be seen, which was closed with field stones and rock fragments. To the right of the window is a second door with a rectangular cutout. This opening was in connection with the installation of a stove in 1909 and from then on served to supply heating material. On the north side of the choir two windows can be seen, which were also walled up. The one on the left is ogival and probably comes from the early days of the church, the one on the right is designed in the shape of a beehive and is therefore much more recent. In between there is a large window that takes up the shape of the openings on the nave. On the east wall of the choir, two lancet windows from the construction period have been preserved. However, they are plastered so that no light falls on the altarpiece. Above the two windows is a beehive-shaped opening that was built in at a later date. On the south side is the former priest's gate , the gable of which is decorated with panels made of keel arches and which leads into the portal hall from 1499. This date has been handed down by a boulder embedded there, on which the year was stamped. Experts suspect that the late Gothic letters that were also stamped could be the initials of the builder. To the west of the door is the former men's gate . On the southern facade of the choir - as in the southern nave - there is one window, or two in the nave, modified in Baroque style. The west tower, the north-east wall of which jumps back above the nave, ends with a hipped roof . It is a total of 24 meters high, eleven meters wide and six meters deep on its north side. The stones are cut and layered much more unevenly here than in the nave and choir. The edges are partly made of hewn limestone. The south side is shortened by one meter. Static reasons could have played a role for this. Four bells with diameters of 117 cm, 96 cm, 83.5 cm and 75.8 cm from 1919 hang behind the pointed arch- shaped sound arcades . They can be reached via a staircase with 64 steps. Two arcades face the west side, and there is another one on the other sides of the tower.

Interior

The pulpit, the altar and the organ gallery date from the year 1722. The cup-shaped Fünte was made from Rüdersdorfer limestone in the late Middle Ages . It is around 83.5 cm high. Inside there is a brass baptismal bowl with the inscription: "One Lord - One Faith - One Baptism". The cup has a diameter of 67.5 cm. The organ with eight registers is a foundation from 1861. Two 34 cm high brass candlesticks date from the 15th or 16th century. They are decorated with three rings, while the foot is designed in the form of three animal claws. The chandeliers were made in the early 18th century.

The interior is separated from the roof by a flat wooden beam ceiling. There is a pointed triumphal arch between the nave and the choir .
