course

The Kirnach rises in the Oberkirnach sub-community of the city of St. Georgen on the eastern slope of the Kesselberg at Hagmichelshof des Zinkens Kesselberg at about 950  m above sea level. NHN . In a very steady east-south-east course it runs through the districts of Oberkirnach, the independent municipality of Unterkirnach and finally through the sparsely populated western parts of Villingen-Schwenningen, where it flows into the Brigach from the right opposite the Villingen-Kirnach train station .

The Kirnach collects several short inflows from both sides on its course, the most important by far is the 4.4 km long right Schlegelbach , which flows to it in the central Unterkirnach, the only larger settlement in the valley and the 33.1 km² large inflow area is where otherwise scattered settlements and forests dominate.
