The Kirnach is a 12 km long river in the eastern Black Forest in Baden-Württemberg , which flows into the middle Brigach from the right and west near Villingen in the Schwarzwald-Baar district .
Surname
The name of the Kirnach is of Germanic origin. And is made up of the rounded Kirn and the word Ach . Kirn or Kürn means mill, but also grain, grain. It is derived from the Middle High German "Kürne", Old High German "Quirn" and Germanic "kwirn-uc".
course
The Kirnach rises in the Oberkirnach sub-community of the city of St. Georgen on the eastern slope of the Kesselberg at Hagmichelshof des Zinkens Kesselberg at about 950 m above sea level. NHN . In a very steady east-south-east course it runs through the districts of Oberkirnach, the independent municipality of Unterkirnach and finally through the sparsely populated western parts of Villingen-Schwenningen, where it flows into the Brigach from the right opposite the Villingen-Kirnach train station .
The Kirnach collects several short inflows from both sides on its course, the most important by far is the 4.4 km long right Schlegelbach , which flows to it in the central Unterkirnach, the only larger settlement in the valley and the 33.1 km² large inflow area is where otherwise scattered settlements and forests dominate.
