The 2004/05 Heineken Cup was the tenth edition of the Heineken Cup , the most important European cup competition in rugby union . 24 teams from six countries took part. The first of a total of 79 games took place on October 22, 2004, the final on May 22, 2005 at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh . Cup winner was Stade Toulousain from France for the third time , which defeated Stade Français in the final .
mode
The participants were divided into six groups of four teams each. Each team played a home and an away game against the three group opponents. In the group stage, the teams received
- four points for a win
- two points for a tie
- a bonus point for four or more attempts
- a bonus point for a loss of less than seven points
For the quarter-finals, the six group winners (classified according to the number of points won in places 1–6) and the two best runners-up (classified in places 7–8) qualified. Teams ranked 1-4 had home rights in the quarter-finals. The first against the eighth, the second against the seventh, the third against the sixth and the fourth against the fifth.
