Heineken Cup 2011/12

The Heineken Cup 2012/13 was the 18th edition of the Heineken Cup (predecessor of the European Rugby Champions Cup ), the most important European cup competition in rugby union . 24 teams from six countries took part. The competition began on October 12, 2012 and the final took place on May 18, 2013 at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin . The French club RC Toulon won the title for the first time . The Irish team Leinster Rugby were defending champions and had the chance to be the first team ever to win the trophy three times in a row, but were eliminated in the preliminary round.

mode

On June 12, 2012, the participants were divided into six groups of four teams each. The betting order is based on the results of the individual clubs in previous years. Each team plays one home and one away game against the three group opponents. In the group stage, the teams receive:

  • four points for a win
  • two points for a tie
  • a bonus point for four or more attempts
  • a bonus point for a loss of seven or less points

For the quarter-finals, the six group winners (classified according to the number of points won in places 1–6) and the two best runners-up (classified in places 7–8) qualified. Teams ranked 1-4 had home rights in the quarter-finals. The first played against the eighth, the second against the seventh, the third against the sixth and the fourth against the fifth. Three of the four remaining runners-up qualified for the quarter-finals of the European Challenge Cup 2012/13 .

Group stage

  • Group winners, qualified for quarter-finals
  • Two best runners-up, qualified for quarter-finals
  • Third to fifth best group runner-up, qualified for the quarter-finals of the European Challenge Cup
  • Group 1
