Kirsten Brandt (* 1963 in Friedberg (Hessen) ) is a German literary translator .

Life

Kirsten Brandt spent her childhood and youth in Offenbach am Main . She completed an apprenticeship as a bookseller and worked in the retail book trade from 1983 to 1986 . From 1986 to 1996 she studied Lusitan , English and German at the universities in Frankfurt am Main and Hamburg ; she completed this course with a master's degree . Brandt worked as a literary agent and lived temporarily in Portugal and Catalonia . She has been working as a freelance literary translator since 2000 . Today she lives with her family in Offenbach .

Kirsten Brandt initially translated fiction from Portuguese and Spanish ; the focus of her work is now on translating works into Catalan . Brandt is a member of the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works . In 2005 she received the translation prize of the Spanish Embassy in Germany for her translation of Dulce Chacón's novel "Fandango in the Snow".
