Kjersti Elizabeth Grini (born September 7, 1971 in Oslo , Norway ) is a former Norwegian handball player .

Career

Grini started playing handball in 1980. The Norwegian played in her home country with Jaren, Lunner, Bækkelagets SK , Toten and Tertnes IL . In 2000, the right-hander moved to the Danish club Ikast-Bording Elite Håndbold , with whom she won the Danish Cup in 2001 and the EHF Cup in 2002. In 2003 she ended her career due to an injury. Since October 2012 she has been playing for the second team at Gjøvik HK. In the 2012/13 season she ran again for the first team of Gjøvik in the Eliteserien.

Grini completed 201 games for the Norwegian national handball team . With a total of 1003 goals, she is Norway's record scorer. With the Norwegian selection, she won the 1999 World Cup and the 2001 Vice World Cup . After the Vice European Championship in 1996 , she triumphed with Norway at the 1998 European Championship . In 2000 she won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games.

The goal- scoring backcourt player was top scorer at the 2000 Olympic Games, the European Championship in 1996 and three times in the Norwegian league. After her active career, she coached the Danish first division team Randers HK . After a break of several years, Grini took over a position in the coaching staff of the Norwegian first division club Gjøvik HK in 2012, where she also worked as a sports director.

Private

In 2013, Kjersti Grini and her partner separated after an eight-year relationship. Grini gave birth to two children together.

Trivia

In 2005, Grini took part in a poker tournament on the European Poker Tour in Baden . She took 23rd place and won around 4000 euros . On March 29, 2012, she won a tournament in Dublin with a 2560 euro prize money.
