Kjetil André Rekdal (born November 6, 1968 in Molde ) is a Norwegian football player and coach .
Athletic career
Club career
His professional career began at the age of 16 with Molde FK , for whom he scored 25 goals in 75 games between 1985 and 1988.
Due to his good overview of the game and precise passes, he mostly played the central position in midfield. Third place in the Bundesliga in 1999 with Hertha BSC is considered to be his greatest success as a player outside of the years in Norway. Rekdal played 73 games in the top German division.
Selection bets
As a member of the Norwegian national team , he played 83 senior internationals, in which he scored 17 goals. He will be remembered for his winning goal with a controversial penalty against Brazil in the preliminary round of the 1998 World Cup in France, with which he brought the Norwegian national team to the round of 16 in the 90th minute of the game.
Coaching career
He ended his playing career as a player- coach at Vålerenga Oslo, where he was on the sidelines as a coach until August 2006 after he resigned. In Oslo he is considered one of the most successful coaches in the club and was passed away with honor. In 2002 he won the Norwegian Cup with Vålerenga Oslo , and in 2005 he even won the Norwegian championship, which is considered his greatest success as a coach. Nevertheless, he resigned from his position during the following season. In November 2006 he returned to the Belgian club Lierse SK as a coach .
In an interview with the newspaper Aftenposten in April 2007 he said: “My goal is to become a coach for Hertha BSC and to confirm the reputation I had there as a player. If the club wants me, an answer will be easy for me. "
From June 28, 2007 to February 9, 2008 Rekdal coached 1. FC Kaiserslautern . After a 1: 2 home defeat against TSV 1860 Munich , he was dismissed there and replaced by Milan Šašić .
At the beginning of August 2008, Rekdal took up the post as a junior boss at the Norwegian first division club Molde FK, but on September 5, 2008 - after only 29 days - he gave up the position of head coach at the Norwegian first division club Aalesunds FK . In 2009 and 2011 he won the Norwegian Cup with the club . At the end of the 2012 season , Rekdal was released in late November 2012 after more than four years. On January 8, 2013 he took over Valerenga Oslo again and signed until December 31, 2014.
