Klaus Rehder (Vice Admiral)

Klaus Rehder (born August 7, 1933 in Kiel ; † March 20, 2018 in Heikendorf ) was a retired Vice Admiral . D. of the German Navy and lastly Deputy Commander of the Allied Command Baltic Sea Access in Karup in Denmark .

Military career

Rehder joined the German Navy on June 1, 1956 as an officer candidate . After the officer training at the Naval School Mürwik and other schools of the Navy, he served on destroyers . From 1965 to 1967 he was a consultant in the personnel department of the Federal Ministry of Defense , where he was promoted to captain of the corvette on October 1, 1967 .

After admiral staff training in Great Britain, Rehder became first officer on the new missile destroyer Rommel in May 1970 and took part in its commissioning. On April 1, 1971, he was promoted to frigate captain. After an interim assignment as a planning staff officer in 1972, he took command of the Rommel in December of the same year . While he was in command of this ship, on October 1, 1974, she was promoted to sea captain .

From July 1976 to September 1977 Rehder was deputy commander of the destroyer flotilla . This was followed by a position as Deputy Chief of Staff ACOS Operation and Intelligence at the headquarters of the NATO Baltic Sea Access Command. From October 1979 to September 1981 Rehder headed Staff Division IV (Organization and Budget) in the Navy's command staff . On October 1, 1981 Rehder was promoted to Flotilla Admiral Head of System Support and Repair in the Naval Support Command .

Rehder was promoted to rear admiral from April 1983 to September 1986 Chief of Staff in the command staff of the armed forces and thus the longest official in this position to date. On October 1, 1986 he was promoted to Vice Admiral and took over the task of commander of the fleet . On May 1, 1990, Rehder moved back to the headquarters of the NATO Baltic Sea Access Command as Commander of the Naval Forces Baltic Sea Access (COMNAVBALTAP) , where he also took on the role of Deputy Commander Baltic Sea Access (Deputy COMBALTAP). He was retired on September 30, 1993.
