The Kleine Eichberg is a 336 m high mountain in the 13th district of Hietzing in Vienna .
geography
The Kleine Eichberg is located in the southwestern part of the Hietzing district in the Auhof cadastral municipality on the border with the 23rd Viennese district of Liesing and the municipality of Breitenfurt . It is part of the Lainzer Tiergarten with the neighboring Kaiserzipf in the west, the Middle Eichberg in the north and the Faßlberg in the southeast. The wooded hill (Mackwald) is part of the Wienerwaldgebirge , the northeastern foothills of the Eastern Alps .
The Kleine Eichberg is bordered by two streams. On the one hand there is a source brook of the Gütenbach , which rises on the Große Stockwiese in the north , borders the Eichberg in the south and then runs over the Faßlbergwiese, where it forms the southern border. The Gütenbach itself in turn forms the border in the southwest.
Origin of name
The Kleine Eichberg is probably named after its oak population. Interestingly, there is also a Middle Eichberg , but not a Large Eichberg in the Lainzer Tiergarten. The Kleine Eichberg is overgrown by the Mackwald, which bears the name of its - alleged - former owner. This could either be General Karl Mack von Leiberich , who fought in the Napoleonic Wars , or Franz von Mack, who owned the lords of Kalksburg and Mauer at the end of the 17th century . The Große Stockwiese, first documented as Stock-Wiese in 1819 , possibly got its name from tree stumps that remained in the meadow after clearing.
