The small area Balmazújváros ( Hungarian: Balmazújvárosi kistérség ) was a Hungarian administrative unit ( LAU 1) in western Hajdú-Bihar County in eastern Hungary until the end of 2012 . In the course of the administrative reform of 2013, all 4 localities came into the successor district Balmazújváros (Hungarian Balmazújvárosi járás ), which was reinforced by the rural community Újszentmargita from the small area of ​​Polgár .

At the end of 2012, 29,002 people lived in an area of ​​731.24 km². The small area with the second lowest population had the second lowest population density (40) in the county.

The administrative seat was in the largest city Balmazújváros (17.622 Ew.). Tiszacsege (4.754 Ew.) Also had the town charter, the large municipality Egyek counted 5,128 inhabitants.
