The small area Berettyóújfalu ( Hungarian Berettyóújfalui kistérség ) was a Hungarian administrative unit ( LAU 1) in the south of Hajdú-Bihar County in the Northern Great Plain until the end of 2012 . It bordered Romania in the southeast . At the beginning of 2013, 4 localities (with 6,389 Ew.) Were assigned to the Derecske district as part of the administrative reform . The main part (25 villages with 45,539 Ew.) Was taken over in the following district Berettyóújfalu (Hungarian Berettyóújfalui járás ).

At the end of 2012, 51,928 people lived in an area of ​​1,225.54 km². The population density of the largest small area in terms of area was 42 inhabitants / km², half of the county.

The administrative seat was in the largest city Berettyóújfalu (15.411 Ew.). Komádi (5.579 Ew.) And Biharkeresztes (4.054) also had city rights. Pocsaj, Csökmő and Zsáka were three large municipalities (Hungarian nagyközség ).
