Pocsaj [ ˈpotʃɒj ] is a large eastern Hungarian municipality in the Derecske district on the edge of the Great Hungarian Plain ( Alföld ) in Hajdú-Bihar County . It has an area of ​​49.55 km² and 2,579 inhabitants (as of 2011).

The place is located at the mouth of the Ér in the Berettyó at the foot of the Bihar Mountains in Transylvania , right on the Romanian border, about 40 kilometers from Debrecen and 240 kilometers from the Hungarian capital Budapest . Pocsaj borders the Romanian district of Bihor and the following municipalities:
