Biharkeresztes (formerly Keresztes ) is a town in Berettyóújfalu County in Hajdú-Bihar County in eastern Hungary .

history

The area was already inhabited in the Neolithic Age.

As of the 1552 census, it was the most populous village in the region. Between 1554 and 1566 the population was Roman Catholic, after 1566 the organized Catholic Church ended. The Turks ravaged the village in 1660 and the population was dispersed, and in 1692 the population began to return.

Economy and Transport

The city is crossed by Europastraße 60 - which is also run here as Europastraße 79 and Hauptstraße 42 . The railway connection is given by the Püspökladány – Oradea railway line .
