history

The place name Kleinrheinfeld goes back to a so-called "Rannenfeld". Old, lying tree trunks that were rafted further were called rannen. Originally the area around the village was therefore probably very wooded. Kleinrheinfeld first appeared in the documents in 1258 . In the following centuries the church affiliation of the village changed very frequently. Today the church is part of the Traustadt parish .

For a long time, Kleinrheinfeld was an independent municipality in the Gerolzhofen district . In the course of the municipal reform, it was initially incorporated into Traustadt, before it became part of the Donnersdorf municipality together with the neighboring town in 1978.

Attractions

The St. Jakobus Church in Kleinrheinfeld

The center of the place is the Catholic branch church . It is consecrated to St. James and was created in 1712 under the government of Johann Philipp von Greiffenclau as Würzburg prince-bishop. A six-sided roof turret with a dome was attached above the choir . After 1712 the furnishings were also completed. The two-column high altar can be found in the center of the choir. It is surrounded by two side altars. Around 1750 the nave was stuccoed.

There is a chapel at one of the town exits . It was built as a war memorial chapel at the beginning of the 20th century. A fresco of the resurrection of Christ was placed above the entrance, a small rococo altar was placed inside, and two figures of saints were set up. Furthermore, several farmhouses from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved in the village.

As a typical Franconian farming village, several wayside shrines and small memorials have been preserved around Kleinrheinfeld . The oldest is the so-called Hensleinsmarter on Staatsstrasse 2275. It dates from the 16th and 17th centuries and was decorated with reliefs of the crucifixion and the Descent from the Cross. Several wayside shrines from the 19th century were created in the neo-Gothic style, but could not be re-qualified by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation.
