history

In 983, the Benedictine Hagananrothe (Hagenrode) was named among the possessions of the Nienburg monastery . 1179 took Pope Alexander III . Hagenrode Monastery as a branch monastery of Nienburg under his protection and confirmed his ownership, which also included mills. Below this was a mill located directly in the monastery area, later referred to as the monastery mill, and a second, also as a watermill on the Selke, just a few hundred meters further up. After a short period of prosperity, the facilities of the small monastery fell into disrepair, which was accelerated by looting during the peasant war. From the year 1575 it is handed down that the Harzgeroder council had the pommel fetched from the church tower for 12 silver groschen. A village that had arisen in the vicinity of the monastery also fell in desolation . However, the monastery mill was continued on site well into the 19th century. Remains of the monastery ruins remained until the middle of the 19th century. The Ulriken weir , which no longer exists, was part of the mill . The Adolphfelsen with a breakthrough has been preserved as the remainder of the dam . In 1870, stones from the demolished ruin were used for the foundation walls of the newly built Hotel zum Klostermühle . Around 1925, part of a capital was found as the remainder of a column during an excavation. It was decorated with a lion's head framed by leaves. From 1912, the Hotel zur Klostermühle supplied electricity; in the GDR era it was operated as a holiday home for the Deutsche Reichsbahn. Unused since the early 1990s, it is in a state of disrepair.

The listed Selke Bridge at the Klostermühle existed near the village . However, it was replaced by a new building in 2016.
