The Knittelkarspitze is 2376 m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Lechtal Alps in the Austrian state of Tyrol .
location
The Knittelkarspitze is located in the northeast of the Lechtal Alps, in the Liegfeist group , the highest peak of which it forms. The Knittelkarspitze is connected to its only 66 m lower lower summit, the Knittelkarkopf , via a 500 m long rocky ridge . To the north, the Knittelkarspitze sends an approximately four-kilometer-long ridge that ends at the Schwarzhanskarspitze . The most important valley locations at the foot of the mountain are Namlos in the south and Kelmen in the east.
history
In the past, the mountain range was shaken by several earthquakes . The epicenter of this quake is believed to be under the Knittelkarspitze. On October 8, 1930, the heaviest earthquake to date occurred with a magnitude of 5 on the Richter scale . In addition to individual rockfalls in the mountain range, there was also major damage in the surrounding villages, especially in Namlos.
Routes to the summit
The normal route , which requires surefootedness and a head for heights, leads from Kelmen over the Kelmer Joch and the Knittelkarkopf to the summit. Individual climbing points in the ascent are rated with the I degree of difficulty (UIAA) . From the northeast, the Knittelkarspitze can also be reached from the Reuttener Hütte via the Reuttener Höhenweg , which meets the normal route below the Knittelkarkopf.
