The village Kohtla ( Estonian Kohtla küla ) is located in Ida-Viru County ( East Wierland ) in northeast Estonia . It is the capital of the rural community of the same name ( Kohtla vald ).

Description and history

The village has 79 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2010). It is located just east of the city of Kohtla-Nõmme in an extensive karst area .

Kohtla (also called Kohtla-Vanaküla) goes back to the village of Odri, which has been documented since 1241 . The first documented information about the Kohtla farm (German Kochtel ) dates from 1419. From 1844 the village was only called Kohtla like the farm. From 1750 until it was expropriated in the course of the Estonian land reform in 1919, the farm was owned by the noble Baltic German family Stackelberg . The mansion burned down in 1941 during World War II .

Archaeologists found several treasures near Kohtla, including Arabic coins from the 8th and 9th centuries. Century.

The most famous son of the place was the chess grandmaster Lembit Oll (1966-1999). He is buried in Tallinn .

Kohtla train station

Kohtla is located on the railway line between the Estonian capital Tallinn and the city of Narva . It was inaugurated in the early 1870s. The first station dates from 1876. The current station building was built in 1950 in the style of its time. It was sold to a private individual in 2010. The platform is 330 m long.
