Konrad Ludwig Schwab (born December 11, 1780 in Kreutzberg near Saarbrücken , † November 17, 1859 in Munich ) was a professor of veterinary medicine in Munich.

Schwab studied at the University of Munich from 1798 and later became an assistant and in 1803 a prosector. For further training, he completed a two-year journey that took him to the universities of Vienna , Dresden , Berlin and Alfort . After his appointment as coach he received his doctorate in 1809 in Landshut Dr. med .; In 1810 he became the third public professor in Munich. In this capacity he had to give lectures not only on anatomy , but also on botany , natural history, dietetics , physiology and stud studies . After becoming first professor, the field he represented expanded to include pathology , general therapy , pharmacy, surgery, and the surgical clinic. Since many of these subjects were no or no satisfactory textbooks, he wrote many such works itself or transferred foreign language works into German, so from 1810 to 1812, the anatomy of the domestic animals of Jean Girard , which he, however, also abwandelte and order parts through the digestive system of Ruminants , via the hoof and via embryology .

Another important work by Schwab was the textbook of anatomy from 1821, which saw a second edition in 1833 and a third edition in 1839. This textbook focused primarily on the body structure of the horse and supplemented earlier writings on this topic such as anatomical illustrations of the horse's body from 1813. Again and again he dealt with the spread of anthrax and published his findings on this in 1844.

Schwab eventually became prefect of the school. He did not retire until he was 70 years old. An obituary from 1860 on Schwab ends with the sentence: Schwab's name is therefore not just linked to the history of our institute, the second founder of which he can be seen, but is so closely interwoven with the history of veterinary medicine in general that it is a lasting fame for everyone Times is certain and that later posterity will mention him with respect and gratitude.
