Konrad Walter

Konrad Walter SAC ( Portuguese Conrado Walter ; born June 19, 1923 in Bichishausen ; † September 20, 2018 in Jacarezinho ) was a German religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Jacarezinho .

Life

Konrad Walter, born in Bichishausen in the Swabian Alb, which entered Congregation of the Pallottine in and went as a student in 1954 to Brazil, where he on December 2, 1956 ordination received. He followed his older brother Alois Walter SAC (1904–1989). Konrad Walter became a chaplain in Sao Paulo in 1957. In 1963 he changed as pastor in Cornélio Procópio in the state of Paraná in southern Brazil. There he was particularly committed to social housing.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on December 1, 1977 auxiliary bishop in Jacarezinho and titular bishop of Lysinia . The Apostolic Nuncio in Brazil , Archbishop Carmine Rocco , donated him episcopal ordination on February 2 of the following year ; Co- consecrators were José Joaquim Gonçalves , Bishop of Cornélio Procópio , and Pedro Filipak , Bishop of Jacarezinho. His episcopal motto was "Fidelitas et Oboedientia".

Pope John Paul II appointed him coadjutor bishop of Jacarezinho on November 3, 1979 . With the death of Pedro Filipak on August 10, 1991, he succeeded him as Bishop of Jacarezinho, a diocese with approx. 400,000 members. On July 5, 2000, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.

Because of his commitment to lay catechesis and spiritual vocations, Konrad Walter was called “Bispo das Vocaoes” (“Bishop who takes care of vocations”).
