Origin and family

Constantine was a member of the Courland Counts von der Pahlen . His parents were the Russian Guard - captain and majorate on Kautzemünde , Johann Graf von der Pahlen (1784-1856) and Sophia, née Countess von Medem (1799-1872).

Career

Pahlen studied until 1852 in St. Petersburg law . He then switched to the Russian civil service. In 1854 it was used by the Ministry of Public Enlightenment and from 1855 to 1861 by the Reich Chancellery. In 1864 he became governor of Pleskau and in 1867 he became assistant to the Minister of Justice and State Secretary of the Emperor. In the same year he became Minister of Justice and remained in this position until 1878. Even afterwards he remained a permanent member of the Reichsrat . In 1878 he became a Real Privy Councilor , was director of the support fund of the Evangelical Lutheran Congregation from 1880 to 1890 and was appointed Lord Chamberlain in 1904.
