Korkut ( Kurdish Têlî , from Armenian T'il - "hill") is a city and capital of the district of the same name ( İlçe ) in the Eastern Anatolian province of Muş . Korkut is located about 25 km east of the provincial capital Muş , a little north of the Tatvan-Elâzığ railway line or the D300 highway and a little west of the D959 highway.
The second smallest district is located in the southeast of the province and borders the central district ( Merkez ) Muş in the west and northwest, the district Bulanık in the north, the province Bitlis in the east and the district Hasköy in the south. The population density (33.3) is below the provincial value (47.2 inh. Per km²).
The district was formed on May 9, 1990 by Law No. 3644. Up to this point he was a Bucak in the eastern part of the central district (Merkez) Muş. At the last census before the change of area (1985) this Bucak had 27,851 inhabitants, of which 1,645 for the main town ( Bucak Merkezi ). The entire central district had 165,895 inhabitants at that time, the province 339,492 inhabitants.
At the end of 2018, the district consisted of the district town (24.5% of the district's population), another Belediye , the municipality of Altınova (2,702 inhabitants) west of the district town and 30 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 650 residents. Nine of the villages have over a thousand inhabitants: Güneyik (1,652), Güven (1,311), Alazlı (1,255), Karakale (1,246), Yolgözler (1,203), Konakdüzü (1,130), Kapılı (1,118), Oğulıkbaşı (1,114) and Sazlıkbaşı ( 1,114) 1,094 pop). 13 villages have more than 650 inhabitants
