Hasköy ( Kurdish Dêrxas , Armenian Xarts - "Röhricht") is a city and capital of the district of the same name ( İlçe ) in the Eastern Anatolian province of Mus . Hasköy is located about 13 km southeast of the provincial capital Muş south of the Tatvan-Elâzığ railway line and on the D300 highway that connects Kurkut with Muş.

The district is located in the southeast of the province and borders in the west on the central district ( Merkez ) Muş, in the north on the district Korkut , in the south and in the east on the province Bitlis . The population density is the highest in the province (97.5), the population is the lowest just behind the district of Korkut.

The Karasu River flows north of the city of Hasköy in a westerly direction.

The county was established as a county on June 19, 1987 by Law No. 3392 and is the smallest county in the province. Up until this point, some villages and the Belediye Hasköy were part of the Bucak Merkez in the southeastern part of the central district (Merkez) Muş.

At the end of 2018, the district consisted of the district town (47.5% of the district's population), another Belediye , the community of Düzkışla (1,588 inhabitants) near Hasköy and 17 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 701 residents. Five of the villages have over a thousand inhabitants: Eşmepınar (2,024), Gökyazı (1,410), Azıklı (1,244), Elmabulak (1,129) and Aşağıüçdam (1,056 inhabitants).

history

The ancient Carian city of Attuda ( Greek  Ἄττουδα ) was located near Hasköy . She maintained close ties with the neighboring city of Trapezopolis . Coin finds from the time of Augustus with the inscription Ἱερὰ Βουλὴ Ἀττουδέων show that the god Men was worshiped here. At the beginning of the 20th century, around 4,000 Armenians lived in the city, which had three churches. The name Hasköy could be derived from the Armenian word Xarts for swamp / wetland, which became Xars .

The place received the status of a Belediye (municipality) in 1968 .
