history

The Kothmaißling train station

The village was first mentioned in 1118 under the name Kozmuzlingen . The origin of the place name is unclear: It is likely that the name is a combination of Kote (Kütte) and the proper name Maizo . Equally plausible is the assumption that the name is derived from the Bohemian free farmers , the Choden , who settled in the Bavarian-Bohemian border area to secure the travel routes.

During the Middle Ages , the village experienced a significant boom due to its location on trade routes that led through the Cham-Further valley from Regensburg and Nuremberg to Prague. During the Thirty Years' War, however , the village was completely destroyed and burned down by the action of Swedish troops in 1641 .

The Cham-Furth im Wald railway, opened in 1861, with a train station in Kothmaißling , brought significant progress . From 1878, this station was a transshipment point for the granite from the Blauberg granite works in the neighboring village of Raindorf .

During the 1970s, the industrial line to Raindorf was discontinued and dismantled. Likewise, the federal road 20 , which had previously run through the village, was laid out around the village, which resulted in the closure of local petrol stations and shops.

traffic

In terms of traffic, Kothmaißling is very conveniently located compared to other villages in the area. The train station on the Schwandorf – Furth im Wald railway line is served almost every hour in both directions by regional trains operated by the Upper Palatinate Railway . There are also regional express connections to Nuremberg.

A few hundred meters outside of the village there is a driveway to the B 20, which runs from the Czech border to Cham .
