Windischbergerdorf is a district of the district town of Cham in the district of the same name in the administrative district of Upper Palatinate in Eastern Bavaria and is about 4 km from Cham.

history

In 748, Benedictine monks from the Regensburg monastery of St. Emmeram founded a cella (monastic settlement) in what is now the Chammünster district , which, as the so-called original parish with the later Marienmünster, became the starting point for settlement in the Upper Bavarian Forest and the central Bohemian Forest . In the Middle Ages, an imperial castle stood on the Galgenberg, which secured the trade route to Bohemia .

The lords of the castle who lived here named themselves Puchberger after the mountain on which the castle stood. Otto von Puchberg appeared as a witness in 1204 when Duke Ludwig issued a certificate to the Reichenbach Monastery (near Roding). Towards the end of the 13th century, the Puchberg family was already divided. At the turn of the century, the entire estate was finally sold to the Lower Bavarian Duke Otto. The castle perished a few years later. Today only a few remains of the wall can be seen.

The Windischbergerdorf Castle was probably from a possession of Puchberg. There is no documentary evidence for this, so that more precise information about the construction of the castle in Windischbergerdorf is not possible. The name Windischbergerdorf was also not in use at that time. The place was then called Puchbergerdorf. It wasn't until 1574 that the name Windischbergerdorf was mentioned for the first time. The addition of "Windisch" to the name served to localize the village more precisely in order to distinguish it from Groß-Bergerdorf (near Pemfling ). Windischbergerdorf is that Bergerdorf, which is closer to the Wends (= Slavs in Bohemia ).

Windischbergerdorf Castle changed hands frequently. The year 1740 can be described as an absolute low point, when the castle owner councilor (von Cham ) Felix Bachl was slain by the Pandours and the buildings partially collapsed. About 14 years later, Johann Martin Obersperger acquired the property and had it rebuilt. 20 years later, the new castle owner Georg Lankes had two floors of the castle tower demolished, and so the building lost its face more and more. Today the former castle is hardly recognizable. Only one street name gives an idea of its existence.

As part of the regional reform in Bavaria , the community was incorporated into the city of Cham on May 1, 1978 .

Windischbergerdorf Church of St. Michael

church

The Catholic Church of St. Michael was completed in 1951, after work had already started in 1946/47. After difficult circumstances in the post-war period led to a forced break, the laying of the foundation stone in 1948 and the consecration of the church in September 1951 were celebrated.
