action

There is a row in the rear building of a Berlin apartment building, where the tenants make life difficult for each other and the curious property manager August Krüger has to ensure law and order. The main topic among the contentious residents is currently the topic of “coal theft”, which was extremely important in the early post-war period. Briquettes are stolen from the coal cellar from time to time. The chief postal conductor Hermann Schulze is more suffering. Krüger secretly directs suspicion to the laundress Bock, a decent and honest widow who lives with her daughter Ilse. The flatwoman is very angry about the tremendous suspicion and is now doing a lot on her part to get the thief on the trail. She positions briquettes with fireworks in Schulze's coal cellar, so that everyone who heats with his coal will experience an explosive surprise.

Prompt there is a huge rumble in the house ... in the oven of the double-faced, denunciating August Krüger. But who denies ever having long fingers. There is a court hearing in which Kruger’s guilt is clearly proven. Attorney Dr. Horn represented Mrs. Bock so well that his daughter Ilse got engaged to him afterwards. There is also a happy ending between master baker Gustav Kluge, another tenant, and Schulze's daughter Paula. In addition to this main storyline, there are also various sub-storylines, for example about the young Edeltraut, who, as another victim of August Krüger's unfounded suspicions, can make a significant contribution to the clarification of the briquette theft case in court.

Reviews

"There are no references to the post-war period in the remake, ... but significantly more quotes from Maximilian Böttcher."

"High-spirited comedy with a lot of situation comedy, which despite some lengths and tastelessness provides entertainment."
