Kralik from Meyrswalden

Kralik von Meyrswalden is the name of an originally Bohemian family who were raised to the hereditary Austrian knighthood in 1877 . Members of this family were mainly active as industrialists, scientists and artists.

The Kralik von Meyrswalden family descends from the German-Bohemian glass manufacturer Wilhelm Kralik (1806–1877). Coming from a modest background, he joined the glassworks of his godfather Johann Meyr von Meyrswalden (1775–1841), who also appointed Kralik as his successor. After taking over the Meyr'schen Glasfabriken, he established it as a manufacturer of products of the highest quality. In cooperation with Ludwig Lobmeyr he succeeded in further expanding his glass factories in Bohemia.

Shortly before his death, Wilhelm Kralik was awarded the Order of the Iron Crown III on April 11, 1877 by Emperor Franz Joseph I in recognition of his industrial and humanitarian work . Class raised to the hereditary knighthood. From then on, he and his legitimate descendants were allowed to use the title “Knight of Meyrswalden”.

His son Heinrich Kralik von Meyrswalden (1840–1911) inherited the company Meyr's Neffe with his brothers in 1877 . After the division of the inheritance with his brothers in 1881, Heinrich u. a. the glass factory in Eleonorenhain , which he continued under the company name Wilhelm Kralik Sohn until his death in 1911. His son Gottlob Kralik von Meyrswalden (1878–1964) moved with his family to Fürstenberg (Oder ) in 1910 and ran a glassworks there that specialized in lighting glass. With him, many Bohemian glassmakers also moved to Fürstenberg.

The grave of the Kralik von Meyrswalden family is preserved in the cemetery in Horní Vltavice .

After the end of the monarchy in Austria-Hungary , the parliament of the Republic of German-Austria decided on April 3, 1919, to abolish the nobility. As a result of this nobility annulment law , the members of the Kralik von Meyrswalden family living in Austria also lost the right to use their titles.

The coat of arms of the Kralik von Meyrswalden family, awarded on the occasion of the knighthood in 1877, shows a Bohemian lion holding a glass oil vial in its right paw and above two industrial comb wheels as a symbol for the Bohemian glass factories of Wilhelm Kralik. The blazon reads: “A red shield with a black shield head. In his shield is a two-tailed, silver, red-tongued lion, in the right front paw and a glass vial of oil with two handles in front of him. In the top of the shield are two golden comb wheels, one next to the other. On the main edge of the shield rest two crowned tournament helmets: from the one on the right, red covers with silver and from the left, black covers with gold. From the crown of the helmet on the right an unloaded lion, similar to the one visible in the shield, grows inwards and each on the left carries a closed, black front with a golden comb and a golden eagle flight in the back. "
